East London Group Meeting - 4th May 2019 - Gants Hill
My full report of the meeting will be in the next Gants Hill URC magazine but I thought I would let you know of the East London Group Mission Statement and future events, which include:
  • On 11th May, there is a Join Your Young People group at Seven Kings United Free Church, Meads Lane, Ilford IG3 8NU at 6pm.
  • A Cause of Celebration held on Saturday 15th June, 10am - 4pm at Streatham URC, South London - a day of workshops and celebrations for urban URCs under the title: What's Love got to do with it? (trying to be Christian in a crazy world)
  • On Saturday 26th October, 10 am - 4pm, at Vine URC, Ilford IG1 1JH, there is an Inside - Outside - Inter-Cultural - Inter-Generational Event open to all churches in the Thames North and neighbouring synods. Worskshops include a gospel choir.
East London Group Mission Statement 2019
Our Mission is to share the good news of God's love for all, especially in the east of London, through churches coming together.

Our Statement:
  • We are called by God to become a loving, caring, welcoming community united by the love of God in Christ.
  • We gather for worship, Bible study and prayer, to learn about God, to deepen our faith and to discover where God is leading us.
  • We express the love of God by serving one another in the East London area, the local ecumenical communities, in the neighbourhoods and in the wider world.
  • We are enthusiastic about our faith and trust in God's continuing guidance through the Power of the Holy Spirit and pray for the ability to discover the activity of Christ in the world.
  • We are an inclusive, multicultural group of churches serving the needs of children, young people and adults; encouraging the use of talents and skills of different ages.
  • We are active in working with adults, young people and children of different faiths in the communities.

    Rev'd Martin Wheadon
I have been ordained as a minister since 2001, working on my own and within a team. I was the minister at Gants Hill URC until 30th September 2021. I also have 34 years of banking behind me, during which I enjoyed developing teams and working to deadlines. Pastoral care, preaching, being alongside people and journeying with members of congregations on their spiritual journeys are my delights.
